Frontières International Co-Production Market expands from Montreal to the Brussels International

FRONTIÈRES EXPANDS FROM MONTREAL'S FANTASIA TO BRUSSELS' BIFFF

The Fantasia International Film Festival is proud to announce the expansion of its Frontières International Co-Production Market to the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. Frontières will effectively become a circuit making a bridge between Montreal, in July, and Brussels, in April, respectively starting with their July 2013 and April 2014 editions.

This expansion was made possible by a strategic partnership between Fantasia, BIFFF and Vision-in-Motion that secured funding from the MEDIA Mundus program of the European Commission. Frontières is the only new initiative to be funded by the program this year. MEDIA Mundus supports the cooperation between audiovisual professionals in Europe and the rest of the world. Other events supported by the program include industry initiatives by the Toronto, Berlin, Copenhagen and Buenos Aires film festivals.

Frontières is the first and only co-production market to connect North America with Europe, in an environment specifically focused on genre film production. It is part of the Fantasia Industry Rendez-Vous, which will be held from July 25th to July 28th, 2013. The Rendez-Vous also includes the Fantasia Film Market, which made its official debut in 2012, in order to support the sales efforts of titles that were part of the festival’s programming.

The Frontières team is currently curating the project line-up of the market’s second edition at Fantasia, which will include 12 projects from Quebec and Canada, Europe, and the United-States. Projects will be market premieres with a completed script, applicable to an international co-production environment and ideally involving a Canadian production element. The Off-Frontières selection will also be making a comeback in order to allow projects in a wider range of development stages and production environments to be put forward. The market is opened to both seasoned and first-time directors.

The selected Frontières projects will be announced in a week. Filmmakers can still apply to the Off-Frontières line-up. Submission details can be found at fantasiafestival.com/market.

The Fantasia International Film Festival, acclaimed as the largest and most influential genre film festival in North America, will have its 17th edition from July 18 to August 6, 2013. The Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, which just ended its 31st edition, is one of the oldest and most respected genre film festivals in Europe. Vision-in-Motion is a Paris-based company specializing in creating and running professional events for the film industry.
