FilmfestivalsTV.com begins broadband streaming

Filmfestivals.com broadband portal is creating a new way to experience movies online. Feature Films will be streamed in broadband along with a wide range of tools and content intended to enhance the interactive screening experience. Beginning January 18, during the Sundance Film Festival, a different feature film will be premiered every day.

In addition, Filmfestivals.com will offer Broadband Streaming of short films, including interviews with their directors, and a selection of specials.

Filmfestivals.com has selected a group of highly distinguished and award-winning independent feature films for its inaugural drive into broadband internet streaming. The six films selected; Paria ; Beyond the Ocean ; The Corndog Man ; Night Train ; The Photographer ; and Dancing Soul , have collectively screened at more than 100 festivals, and have won scores of awards. The films are notable by their quality and diversity. These films are highly solicited and will continue to be invited to festivals throughout 2001 and beyond.

Paria , a riveting new film by French filmmaker Nicolas Klotz was recently awarded the Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastian International Film Festival. The “avant premiere” broadband streaming to a limited number of viewers represents the general public’s first exposure to this remarkable film. It is interesting to note that PARIA is the only French film of the year 2000 to win a major award at an “A” level international film festival. In addition the film received the “Outstanding Actor” at the Geneva Intl. Film Festival. It is in competition at 5 other major festivals.

Beyond the Ocean , a stirring portrait of a beautiful young Russian girl’s arrival in the United States, first premiered at Sundance in 2000, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. It was then selected 6 other international film festivals, earning high critical praise (Director Tony Pemberton was named one of Variety’s “10 to Watch” in 2000).

The Corndog Man , directed by Andrew Shea, first premiered at Sundance in 1999. Shea’s prior film, SANTA FE, premiered at Sundance in 1997. THE CORNDOG MAN, is a refreshingly original dark comedy that explores the degenerative effects of racism. THE CORNDOG MAN has taken on cult status and become a favorite at more than 20 festivals.

Night Train is the astounding first film by Les Bernstien, one of Hollywood’s most successful Special Effects / Directors of Photography ( Fight Club, Stuart Little, The Hollow Man, Dante’s Peak, Small Soldiers, Batman Forever, Ghostbusters I & II). In addition Bernstien’s work in television has earned him two Emmy nominations and an Emmy Award. Already a cult favorite, Bernstien’s paean to film noire and the German expressionistic cinema of the 30’s, has appeared in more than 10 festivals.

The Photographer explores the quest for inspiration of a famous, trendy downtown photographer over the course of one unforgettable New York night. The highly praised and beautifully filmed first feature by Jeremy Stein has been solicited at more than 12 festivals. At the Camerimage (Cinematography) Festival in Poland, it was in competition against such major fare as Billy Elliot, The Gladiator, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon .

Dancing Soul , a love story between a beautiful guilt-ridden young woman and a famous dancer/choreographer experiencing mid-life disillusionment, comes from Greek filmmaker, Lucia Rikaki. DANCING SOUL was awarded the State Quality Award from the Thessalonika Intl. Film Festival. In addition, it won prizes at the Worldfest Houston Intl. Festival and the Ecofilm Intl. Film Festival. The film has appeared at more than ten film festivals including Milan, Shanghai, Alexandria, Palm Beach and more.
