Once again, the EROS Film Festival will be held at Cinestudio on the campus on Trinity College. This co-production of Out Film CT, the producers of the CT Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, and EROS (Encouraging Respect of Sexualities), the Trinity College student organization will showcase exciting new films and documentaries about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Now in its eighth year, this promises to be a challenging, hilarious, sensual, educational and eye-opening event. "We wanted films that offered portrayals of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in their teens and early twenties, and many of these films show characters that the audience will relate to," said Out Film CT Director, Dan Millett. Among the highlights are:
Red Doors by CT native Georgia Lee. Most of the film was shot in Waterford and New London. When family patriarch Ed Wong decides to retire he must still deal with his three rebellious daughters. Middle daughter Julie, a med school student discovers she is also a lesbian. Through all their ups and downs, the Wongs discover the importance of family.
Pick Up the Mic Subtitled "the evolution of homohop," this is not your parent's hip-hop film, but a look at twenty-first century queer rappers. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans, these young artists are reclaiming hip-hop and using rap as their own means of expression. Radical. Revealing. Raw.
The Gymnast Jane, a former elite gymnast, when confronted with age and infertility, searches to give her life new meaning. Caught between an over-bearing husband and a possessive former teammate, she finds escape in a Circe Du Soleil-type act… and in the arms of another.
Freshman Orientation When college freshman Clay finds himself invisible to women, he decides to remedy the situation by pretending to be gay. After all, straight women love to hang out with gay dudes, right? However, things don't go quite as planned and soon Clay finds himself in the middle of a campus-wide controversy in this very funny, very un-PC farce.
Camp Out Milford, CT native Larry Grimaldi and Kirk Marcolina explore the role of faith in the lives of young queer people at a summer camp in the Mid-West. These kids are outsiders - their straight classmates ostracize them and their churches reject them. In spite of the homophobic climate of many Christian churches, these kids yearn to be part of the Christian faith.
Strangers With Candy A prequel to the critically acclaimed series featuring Jerri Blank, a 46 year-old ex-junkie, ex-con who returns to high school in a bid to start her life over. So join everybody's favorite "user, boozer and loser" in a twisted parody of after-school specials.
And we close with our annual, FREE screening of The Laramie Project on Sun, Nov 12 at 2:30pm. Mark your calendar for five days of great entertainment. See you there!
