Divercine Awards for the Festival of Cinema for Children and Youth of Uruguay

 

In Montevideo, on the 20th of July of 2012, gathered the International Jury of the 21st International Festival of Cinema for Children and Youth of Uruguay, Divercine 2012. Conformed by Jesús Pérez from Bolivia, Liliana Sulzbauch from Brasil and Juan Pablo Zaremella from Argentina, and after watching and analyzing the pieces in contest, the Jury has decided to award the following prices:


Fiction Short Film
For its nostalgic portrait of a small town held up in time, the award goes to AMBITIOUS (Russia), by Ainur Askarov.


Animated Short Film: Joint award
For the clear way in which it transmits the importance of constructive criticism in the life of people, the award goes to THE PRINCESS’ PAINTING (Germany), by Klaus Morschheuser and Hohannes Weiland.
For representing throughout the poetry of its images the importance of break up as a growth factor, the award goes to THE GIANT (Spain), by Luis de Matta Almeida and Julio Vanzeler.

Animated Half-length Film
For the way in which the film language is employed to tell this beautiful story, the award goes to ROSE AND VIOLET (Canada), by Luc Otter and Claude Grösch.


Documentary Short Film
For restoring the importance of team playing above the attraction to competing, the award goes to THE LITTLE TEAM (Spain), by Roger Gómez and Dani Resines.


Award to Best First Work goes to AMBITIOUS (Russia), directed by Ainur Askarov.


UNICEF for the Rights of Children Award goes to 2 BROTHERS (Nederland), directed by Hilt Lochten.

Fiction Full-length Film
For its sensitive representation of child reality in the humble sectors of the world, as well as fostering the human capacity to surpass socially predetermined schemes, the award goes to GATTU (India), by Rajan Khosa.


THE GREAT GURÍ AWARD goes to GATTU by Rajan Khosa.


ICAU's Award to the Best Uruguayan Production goes to URBAN FAUNA, by Marcelo Casacuberta.


Plan DENI's Child Jury gave the award to the Spanish full-length film THE RAG TROOP, by Alex Coll.


The SIGNIS International Jury, the Worldwide Catholic Association for Communication, in the 21st International Festival for Children and Youth, DIVERCINE, conformed by President Gustavo Andújar, from Cuba, Secretary Carla Lima, from Uruguay, and Claudio Larrique, from Uruguay,  has decided to give the SIGNIS Award to the Dutch film 2 BROTHERS, directed by Hilt Lochten. For its beautiful and inspiring display of the relationship between two brothers with very different physical capacities, the director’s attentive and delicate view unveils how unconditional love transforms what could have been a simple bond of dependency into a solid and mutually respected relationship, which leads, trough the acceptance of oneself and the other, to a reciprocal enrichment.


The PEOPLE’S AWARD, after counting all the votes of the child audience, went to JULIET IN BIKE (Brazil), by Marcos Flavio Hinke.
