Content Quebec on Demand: a spotlight on Québec productions and expertise with panels and keynotes...

From now until April 30, audiovisual industry professionals around the world will have an opportunity to discover the best of what Québec has to offer through Content Quebec on Demand, presented by C21. Key players from the creation, production, broadcasting and distribution sectors will have access to a window showcasing and promoting Québec expertise and talent. The program of this virtual event includes interviews, round tables, discussions and exclusive content.

Content Quebec on Demand is a C21 initiative in partnership with SODEC (Société de développement des entreprises culturelles). “This major event bringing together our entire industry is a tremendous opportunity to showcase the quality and export potential of Québec content for traditional and digital platforms,” said Louise Lantagne, SODEC president and CEO. “The C21 program will reflect the keen interest in our expertise that is having a growing impact.”

Preview of new fiction series

The Hot Properties session will highlight three Québec productions selected by C21 that are scheduled for broadcast here in the coming months: Autant en emportent les framboises (Trio Orange), Audrey est revenue (Pixcom) and La Candidate (Encore Télévision). Series creators Philippe Falardeau, Guillaume Lambert, Catherine Léger and Sébastien Gagné, together with their respective producers, will present these new series that are coming to Québec screens soon.

Three other Québec series will receive their international premiere: the police series Portrait‑robot (ALSO Productions) starring Sophie Lorain, Rachel Graton, Adrien Belugou and Rémy Girard; the comedy Contre-offre (Pixcom) featuring Marie-Soleil Dion, Emmanuelle Lussier-Martinez, Noémie O’Farrell and Antoine Vézina; and the sketch comedy Entre deux draps (KOTV), whose stars include Pier-Luc Funk, Virginie Ranger-Beauregard, Matthieu Pepper, Fayolle Jean Jr., Bénédicte Décary and François Papineau.

Xavier Dolan will give an interview on his career and the transition from film to television. He will discuss his influences, inspirations and aspirations, as well as his expectations for the new series. A prominent figure in film and television for the past 25 years, Luc Dionne will reflect on lessons learned from the experiences that have shaped him and on writing a daily dramatic series by himself.

Conferences, interviews and round tables showcasing Québec

Louise Lantagne (SODEC), Hélène Messier (AQPM) and Catalina Briceno (UQAM) will form a round table to discuss changes in the television landscape that have made Québec even more attractive for international buyers and programmers. The panelists will reflect on the Québec ecosystem, as well as on the enviable reputation of the province’s commercial potential.

The top content managers at Radio-Canada and Quebecor will present their development plans and strategies for the coming months. Dany Meloul (Radio-Canada) and Yann Paquet (Quebecor) will explain how they will be adjusting their priorities post-2020. They will also discuss the pressures they face and how they deal with them, as well as talk about what they look for in the various markets.

Christiane Asselin (Tou.tv), Isabelle Sullivan (Crave) and Caroline Paquet (Club Illico) will introduce their respective digital platforms that reach a wide audience and are gaining a foothold with international broadcasters. They will present each platform’s specific features, economic models, content strategies and inter-jurisdictional collaborations.

The animation sector will also be at the forefront. Marie-Claude Beauchamp (CarpeDiem Film & TV inc.), Fred Faubert (Digital Dimension), Denis Doré (Squeeze Animation) and Isabelle Bilodeau (Oasis Animation) will discuss the growth of their industry and the challenges they face. They will also make a convincing case for why the international market should keep an eye on Québec for animated content.

Chanelle Routhier (Québec Film and Television Council), Sysamone Vilayvong (SODEC), Marie-Josée Pilon (Laurentians Film and Television Commission), Martin Carrier (MELS), Iohann Martin (Dazmo), Yan Ethier (Montréal Film and TV Commission) and Irene Litinsky (Muse Entertainment) will present the benefits of producing in Québec during a panel moderated by Josette Normandeau (Ideacom International and AQPM president). International decision makers will come away with a full understanding of the benefits of collaborating with Québec businesses.

At another round table, Sophie Ferron (Media Ranch), Jocelyn Deschênes (Sphere Media), Chrystine Girard (Encore International) and Nicola Merola (Pixcom) will address transformations in production and the evolution of business models that are now geared to the international market. They will explain why Québec storytelling and formats resonate with businesses and audiences worldwide.

Richard Cormier (MELS), Andrew Lapierre (Grandé Studios) and Mathieu Boucher (Hybride) will give a conference explaining Québec’s position in the new technologies and virtual production sector. They will also consider the impact on budgets and content, as well as the benefits for producers to look to Québec.
