FRESHFest
Film Festival
January 18th through January 24th
Minneapolis
based filmmaker Tim VandeSteeg has teamed with Subway Restaurants
to present Mulligan, the first independent film sponsored
by the national restaurant giant. The film, which was produced and
directed by Vandy will make its historic debut in Park City, Utah
at the first ever "FRESHFest Film Festival."
The first annual FRESHFest Film Festival is as the name suggests:
A fresh new opportunity for promising young filmmakers to present
their work in a high profile environment. The Festival is founded
and sponsored by Subway and will run from January 18th through January
24th on the second floor of the Park City Main Street Mall.
The critically acclaimed golf comedy Mulligan has the honor
and distinction of being the very first feature film to be screened
at the new festival. Other works will be on display throughout the
festival including the feature film Directing Eddie as well
as a wide ranging collection of shorts that will help showcase Minnesota's
flourishing film community.
Subway Founder and President Fred DeLuca has taken a personal interest
in the success of Mulligan, ever since Vandy approached the
entrepreneurial legend about his project almost three years ago.
Since than, Mulligan become the first ever Independent film
that the nations second largest restaurant chain has backed financially.
The theme of Mulligan is like the term depicts, getting second
chances, both on the golf course and in life itself. It is a brash,
amusing look at a day in the lives of four twenty-something's whose
dealings on the golf course mirror each character's behavior in
every day life. It equates the trials and tribulations of life with
the same dilemmas and challenges faced in the game of golf. To use
an analogy, think "Swingers meets Caddyshack" or "Clerks with clubs".
"What's so great about our film is that everyone can identify with
the theme of getting second chances and how if allowed a 'do over'
they would fix something in their life. We have been able to weave
that theme through each of our four main characters as they get
together for a rollicking round of golf and learn about second chances
outside of the links," said VandeSteeg.
The comedy has garnered phenomenal support in the business and film
community in Minnesota and around the country. Subway Restaurants
is just one of many companies who have come together in an entirely
unique way to make this project successful. Minnesota based companies
Life Time, Fitness, Sun Country Airlines, Radisson Hotels, James
Page Brewing, Mr.Movies and Phillips' Beverage Company are just
some of the prominent and high profile Minnesota companies that
have partnered with Vandy Productions on this project. Adidas and
Taylor Made Golf are some of the proud national sponsors and partners
that have helped make this project possible.
Through an extremely aggressive and innovative marketing campaign
VandeSteeg and Mulligan continue to attract a great deal
of national attention because of their undying pioneering spirit
and relentless focus to bring this comedy to the big screen. Tim
and the film have been featured in the New York Times, Denver Post,
Daily Variety, Minneapolis Star Tribune, St. Paul Pioneer Press
as well as numerous local television stations around the country.
The FRESHFest Film Festival is just one more way in which success
for Mulligan will be eminent.
