Allen Daviau, THE COLOR PURPLE & E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL cinematographer, confirms attendance at the 2004 Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival.

Allen Daviau will be conducting the cinematography seminar, "The Eastman Kodak Seminar with Allen Daviau," at the Honolulu Academy of Arts Doris Duke Theater at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 28th. He will be sharing his insights into cinematography. In conjunction with the seminar there will be a free screening of Allen Daviau film THE EMPIRE OF THE SUN on Wednesday, October 27 at 8:15pm at Signature Dole Cannery 18 Theatres.

On October 27th, Allen Daviau will be receiving the prestigious Kodak Vision Award for Excellence in Cinematography. Past award recipients include Roger Deakins, Peter Pau, Dean Semler, and Laszlo Kovacs. Allen has been nominated for five Oscars.

Join this year's recipient of the Kodak Vision Award for Cinematography, Allen Daviau (E.T., EMPIRE OF THE SUN, FEARLESS, VAN HELSING) for an intimate seminar on the art and technique of cinematography. Daviau will be discussing all facets of his work, including lighting techniques, camera moves, and angles he used to create his vision, as well as answering audience questions. A special FREE screening of EMPIRE OF THE SUN, one of Daviau's films, will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 8:15pm at the Signature Dole Cannery Theatres. Admission is open to all with a flash pass or a free ticket (limit 2) from the box office.

ALLEN DAVIAU BIOGRAPHY
Allen Daviau, ASC began his career shooting commercials and music promos in Los Angeles, after an interest in color television inspired a young Daviau to study photography. As soon as he was of age, he began working in camera stores and photo labs, including Technicolor. He also shot his own still photography and designed the stage lighting for several plays and operas. His early work encompassed music promotional films and student films, as well as serving as cinematographer for a pop music show for KHJ-TV and working as a still photographer for the band The Monkees.

He already had three independent feature credits when Steven Spielberg noticed one of his TV movies and hired him to shoot his first mainstream feature: E.T.: THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL. The experience earned the first of five Oscar nominations for Daviau and launched his career as one of the industry's leading cinematographers. Other Academy Award nominations followed, for THE COLOR PURPLE, AVALON, EMPIRE OF THE SUN and BUGSY. He won ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards for the latter two films and the British Academy Award for Empire.

His body of narrative film work includes THE FALCON AND THE SNOWMAN, DEFENDING YOUR LIFE, FEARLESS, THE ASTRONAUT'S WIFE AND VAN HELSING. David Wenham, also attending LVHIFF 2004, worked with Allen Daviau in VAN HELSING.
