8th InFACT™ Theatrical Documentary Showcase in Wyoming

The Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, in partnership with Jackson Hole Cinemas and the International Documentary Association (IDA), is bringing the Eighth Annual InFACT™ Theatrical Documentary Showcase to Jackson, Wyoming this fall.

Jackson Hole Cinemas owner, Frank Londy said, "I can think of no time when the importance of documentary films has been more apparent. Seeing a powerful, personal film about a subject near to the heart of the documentarian filmmaker on the movie screen has tremendous impact. It is a special, sometimes life-changing experience. We are proud to be able to bring these very special films to our Jackson Hole audience."

The IDA’s InFACT™ Showcase provides a theatrical exhibition to enable documentary filmmakers to qualify feature and short documentaries for Academy Award® consideration. The decision to tour was based on a change in Academy rules. As of 2003, in addition to a week long theatrical release either in Los Angeles County or Borough of Manhattan in New York, documentary films must have theatrical runs in at least four additional cities.

“We saw the rule change and a growing natural partnership with IDA as a great opportunity to bring the Showcase to the community of Jackson,” said Lisa Samford, director of the Wildlife Film Festival.

Since the inception of the InFACT™ Showcase seven years ago, 13 films have been nominated for Academy Awards® and three films from the showcase took home Oscars®.

“We are thrilled to host this event at Jackson Hole Cinemas and have Jackson as part of our InFACT™ four-city tour,” said Sandra Ruch, IDA’s executive director. “Jackson Hole is well known as a long time supporter of the documentary genre. The InFACT™ collection of new international films provide the diversity and creative richness of the documentary film which we believe will be an interesting and educational opportunity for the people of the community."

InFact™ will run Nov. 15 and 16, at Jackson Hole Cinemas’ Teton Theatre on the square in downtown Jackson. Added Lisa Samford, “Documentary films and filmmakers are important to Jackson Hole. We look forward to presenting this showcase as an annual community event.”

The Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, founded in 1991, is the premiere film festival in its genre. Equally committed to education and outreach, this non-profit organization is dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of the creatures and habitats of our natural world.

IDA is a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles. The organization was founded in 1982 to promote and celebrate non-fiction filmmakers. The IDA is dedicated to increasing public awareness and appreciation of the documentary genre.
