28th Imagine Film Festival
The 28th Imagine Film Festival will run 17 to 28 April 2012 – Filmtheater Kriterion & Tuschinski 1
Approx. 70 long and short films, Night of Terror, Fantastic European Shorts, Anime, Masterclasses, panel discussions and Q&A’s

Special focus on Il Luster Producties
From Tuesday, April 17, until Saturday, April 28, movie lovers can once again indulge in the best, weirdest and most adventurous that the fantasy, horror, science-fiction, animation and thriller genres currently have to offer. And all of it in an environment that’s familiar by now: Filmtheater Kriterion, which is not only perfect for watching films, but also for discussing them afterwards in a cosy café atmosphere. Who’s in with a chance of winning the audience award, and who isn’t? What’s most exciting find of the festival? And what’s the latest trend?
Not exactly a trend, but a phenomenon that’s kept audiences and comic readers under its spell for decades is the superhero. Superman, Spider-Man, Batman; they remain eternally fascinating. But actors outside of Hollywood are also donning outlandish disguises in order to fight Evil with their special powers. Imagine acquired some of the most remarkable examples.
No festival without its regular features. Like the blood-curdling Night of Terror and the Fantastic European Shorts, where today’s talent is getting primed for tomorrow’s glory. And making a comeback: anime! Imagine managed to lay its hands on two beautiful Japanese examples of the genre: A Letter to Momo (Hiroyuki Okiura) and Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below (Makoto Shinkai). And of course there are many more films of all shapes and sizes: from the psychedelic Canadian retro-SF Beyond the Black Rainbow (Panos Cosmatos) to the taut British nail-biter A Lonely Place to Die (Julian Gilbey).
But Imagine isn’t just about the approximately 70 long and short films that are programmed. The festival also gets into discussions with domestic and international guests, in masterclasses and (panel) debates. This year there’s a special focus on Il Luster Producties, who have been a major supplier of fantastic Dutch short animation films for years.
Imagine’s main and side programmes will take place in Filmtheater Kriterion, Roetersstraat 170 in Amsterdam.
The Night of Terror has once again found a home in Tuschinski 1, Amsterdam.
