Rhyme & Rhythm is where cinema and other artforms meet. Through music and performance, visual art and sport, each film offers encounters and inspirations to a different beat.

Coming up in our previously announced Rhyme & Rhythm strand:

Comedian and writer, Stewart Lee will join us in-person in Sheffield at Showroom Cinema, and live online, to introduce Michael Cumming's King Rocker – an anti-rockumentary portrait of outspoken post-punk performer Robert Lloyd (The Nightingales). Screening on World Record Store Day, the film will be followed by a live Q&A with Cumming and Lee. The screening is presented in partnership with Live Cinema UK, supported by Film Hub North, part of the BFI Film Audience Network.

Director Lee Cooper will join us in-person at Showroom Cinema, and online, for a live Q&A following the world premiere of his film Maisie - an intimate portrait of Britain’s oldest drag artiste ‘Maisie Trollette’.

Star of Beth B's UK premiere Lydia Lunch - The War Is Never OverLydia Lunch will join us in conversation with writer and journalist Cathi Unsworth, in the online talk So Real it Hurts: In Conversation with Lydia Lunch. Lydia will speak about her career in the no wave scene, what success looks like as a fiercely anti-commercial artist, and her own upcoming documentary: Artists – Depression/Anxiety & Rage.

Alison Bechdel and Vivian Kleiman will be live in conversation following the international premiere of Kleiman's No Straight Lines: The Rise of Queer Comics.

Vivian Ostrovsky (dir. SON CHANT) and Sonia Wieder-Atherton will be in conversation as part of our screening as part of Sonia & Chantal: Avec Sonia Wieder-Atherton and SON CHANT.

And we're pleased to announce that the UK premiere of Lift Like a Girl / " Ash Ya Captain (عاش يا كابتن)" by Mayye Zayed will be screening in partnership with Birds Eye View’s Reclaim the Frame.
