The Fabrique Cinéma by the Institut français is a programme that aims to identify and promote directors and producers from emerging countries. Working closely with the Festival de Cannes, the Marché du Film and many other professional partners, it offers personalized support to first and second feature film projects.

Each year, an internationally renowned director is chosen to be the programme's patron. He or she acts as a mentor, running several work sessions during the Festival de Cannes.

The name of this year's patron will be announced on 28 March.

Since 2009, the Fabrique Cinéma by the Institut français has supported:

·       101 selected projects, 185 directors and producers from 61 countries, including 23 French-speaking countries (39 % from Latin America, 24 % from Africa, 9 % from the Near and Middle East, 22 % from Asia and 6 % from Eastern Europe).

In 2019, 11 Fabrique films are in post-production. They will be distributed in theatres and festivals in the coming months.

Mon tissu préféré by Gaya Jiji, Rafiki by Wanuri Kahiu, Amal by Mohamed Siam, La Miséricorde de la jungle by Joel Karakezi and La vie comme elle vient by Gustavo Pizzi are the latest films that were originally projects presented to the Fabrique Cinéma by the Institut français.

The Fabrique Cinéma programme was developed by the Institut français in close collaboration with the Festival de Cannes, and in partnership with France Médias Monde, the Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Editeurs de Musique (SACEM), the International Organisation of la Francophonie (IOF), with the support of Orange Studio.
