A lot of enthusiasm today coming from the Austrian/British panel of the film Little Joe which premiered yesterday on the Red Carpet. The film follows characters who live in a futuristic society that is heavily invested in bioengineering. Scientists discover a new flower that causes those who smell it to feel happy, but much darker things lie underneath the flowers positive effects.
It seemed this morning that the press was really intrigued by how the film represented its themes. Such representation was brought out in the film by use of particular colors and and sounds especially to represent the flower’s effects. One big theme found in the movie aside from the happiness the flowers give is the theme of motherhood. “At least in Austria and Germany, motherhood is a bit of a taboo subject, I wanted to tell a story of a mother who loves her child very much and she holds a lot of guilt,” mentioned Hausner while talking about the theme of motherhood in the film. All good things coming from Jessica Hausner’s Little Joe!
