Göteborg International Film Festival in Cannes

Göteborg International Film Festival will be highly noticeable during the Cannes festival 2009: Nordic Film Market celebrates ten with the most heartful beach party at the Croisette, the film fund celebrates ten with "fund film" Min Ye screening in the official programme and festival director Marit Kapla will be one of five members in the jury of Un Certain Regard.

In a few days it is once again time for the most important film festival in the world.
This time with the festival director of Göteborg International Film Festival, Marit Kapla in the jury of the official selection Un Certain Regard. Un Certain Regard opens with We Know Nothing of Persian Cats by Iranian director Bahman Ghobadi. Chairman of the jury is the Italian director Paolo Sorrentino - winner of last year's Jury Award with Il Divo, other members are the French actress Julie Gayet, the director of The Toronto Film Festival, Piers Handling, and Indian journalist and festival programmer Uma Da Cunha.

Among the nine films chosen by Göteborg International Film Festival Fund for post production support this spring is Souleymane Cissé' s Min Ye - a family drama from today's Mali, with several strong portraits of women. The film will première during a special screening in Cannes, with the director himself as a guest. In 1987 Souleymane Cissé received the Jury Award for his masterpiece Yeelen.

- Of course it is an honour when on of "our" films turns up in Cannes. But even better is that Cissé now has directed his first film since 1995 and that our fund has been able to be part of the process, says fund manager Camilla Larsson.

Last but not least. The traditional beach party, hosted by Nordic film Market and New Nordic Films (our Norwegian colleagues). At the party international programmers, distributors and buyers mingle with the Nordic crowd and get the latest news about what's going on, as well as a strong line-up of guest DJ :s. This time, as The Nordic Film Market turns ten, we expect an even livelier party than usual.
