German films in CannesThe Cannes Film Festival announced the majority of its 2015 program in a press conference today. Other films as well as the Cannes competition jury will be published at the end of next week.
The German co-production ONE FLOOR BELOW by Radu Muntean (RO/FR/DE/SE, Neue Mediopolis Filmproduktion, cine plus Filmproduktion) will have its world premiere in Un Certain Regard. The film centres on the inner dilemma of a family man who is the witness to a murder, but keeps this knowledge to himself when confronted by the police.
As was announced yesterday, the German co-production AVE MARIA by Basil Khalil (PS/DE/FR, Flying Moon Filmproduktion) will screen in the short film competition. The film shows how the quiet routine of five nuns in West Jordan is disturbed when the car of a family of Israeli settlers breaks down nearby just before the beginning of Sabbath.
The short ABSENT by Eliza Petkova was selected for Cinéfondation which is dedicated to new talents of film schools from all over the world. Born in Bulgaria, Eliza Petkova came to Germany after finishing secondary school and has been studying Directing at the German Film & Television Academy (dffb) since 2011. ABSENT follows one night and one day in the life of Klara (30), who has difficulties bringing her daily routine into harmony with her life as a mother.
As part of Cinéfondation, L'Atelier gives film projects currently at the development stage a chance to present themselves. HILAL, FEZA, AND OTHER PLANETS by Kutluğ Ataman (TK/DE) – which will be co-produced on the German side by DETAiLFILM – has been selected.
The films in the independent sidebars of Semaine de la Critique and Quinzaine des Réalisateurs will be announced on 20 and 22 April 2015.
German Films will be presenting a total of 25 new German films to professional accredited visitors at the Cannes film market under the banner of “New German Films” from 15 to 20 May 2015. All the films and screening times for “New German Films” can be found here.
This year will be the 15th time that German Films is joining forces with FOCUS Germany, the amalgamation of the seven major regional film funds, to organize the “German Pavilion” in the International Village of the Marché du Film. It is a meeting point and first stop for accredited visitors from the German and international film industries. The pavilion will be appearing in a new design for its 15th anniversary: newly designed lounges and the sun terrace will be available for meetings. Competent advice will be provided at the information stands of German Films and FOCUS Germany in the entrance foyer area. The contact information:
