"You cannot walk straight when the road bends" catch a glimpse of the Romani culture with Gipsy Caravan

Jasmine Dallal the director said: "I originally named this film after a Romani proverb about
how to cope when life doesn't deal you a straight hand ("You cannot
walk straight when the road bends"). So the film title began as "When
the Road Bends... tales of a Gypsy Caravan." However, brevity and the
marketplace have prevailed so that it is being released simply as
"Gypsy Caravan" in many places. Sorry about the confusion, but it is
all the same movie and I hope you enjoy it."

This was my first movie after my arrival at B-Est Festival and I enjoyed a lot this rich and colorful moment of warm humanity and discovery. The musica of Esma is one the jewels to be discovered along with the other members of the concert. Great production values in the filming and editing makes you want to buy their records fast...

A dazzling display of the musical world of the Roma, juxtaposed to the
real world they live in.

This rich feature documentary celebrates the
luscious music of top international Gypsy performers and interweaves
stirring real life tales of their home life and social background. Shot
by documentary icon Albert Maysles, the film takes place on location in
Spain, Macedonia, Romania and India, as well as in Europe and in the
USA during the Gypsy Caravan concert tour created by World Music Institute.

Starring musicians from FANFARE CIOCARLIA, TARAF DE HAIDOUKS, MAHARAJA, ANTONIO EL PIPA & ESMA REDZEPOVA. Film directed and produced by Jasmine Dellal whose recent feature, AMERICAN GYPSY, won international acclaim for its portrait of an American Romani family battling a decade of drama.

About Bucharest International Film Festival - BIFF - B-EST

Dima Madalina
(B-EST IFF)

B-EST IFF 2009 takes place at Cinema Studio, between 23rd and 30th March.
Price for one ticket 8 RON, 4 films pass 24 RON.
All students, regardless of university, have free access, based on their student id.

Buchar-EST International Film Festival (B-EST IFF) is the first major feature film competition organized in Bucharest, starting with 2005.

The aim of the festival has been to become a forum that encourages new cinema trends. We wish to discover new talents, to promote young filmmakers that have achieved recognition both at a national level, as well as in prestigious international competitions. We wish to bring a selection of best quality films to the cinema audience of Bucharest, and we invite you to take part in this event.

B-EST is a festival dedicated to art cinema, but also to those that want to express something new and different through film. Although the focus is represented by independent creations, low and medium-budget productions, B-EST has always managed to include important international awarded films in its selections.
