Rose d’Or 2020 finalists announcedNominees in the prestigious 59th Rose d’Or Awards have been announced, selected from 766 entries across 12 categories, for the 2020 digital edition. The shortlist was voted for by over 80 international judges from across the television industry and includes entries from every major territory in the world. Given the extraordinary challenges faced in 2020, this year’s awards also includes a special category to recognise Innovation In The Time of COVID, with finalists from Spain, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium, the US and UK. Mark Rowland, chair of the 2020 judges, said: “At a time when the medium of television has never played a more central role in our lives – and when producing programmes has never been more challenging – we’ve seen an amazing breadth of subjects and creative treatments. With production standards higher than ever, across the globe. Congratulations to all the nominees on an amazing achievement.” Markus Sterky, chair of the European Broadcasting Union TV Committee, said: “The Rose d’Or Awards have always been a major moment in the industry calendar but this year, more than ever, being able to celebrate our achievements is fundamental. This year has seen a record number of entries and the resulting nominee list is truly international, with a diverse range of topics and talent, showing breath-taking quality. That these productions have been created in spite of the challenges of Covid-19 is phenomenal. For me, impactful stories matter and can resonate with audiences for decades. This is a shortlist that we will still be talking about in years to come.” This year Rose d’Or Awards will be presented in a virtual ceremony, hosted by comedian Nish Kumar. The ceremony will stream on Rosedor.com on December 9. During the ceremony, four special awards will also be presented for Lifetime Achievement, Performance of the Year, Emerging Talent and The Golden Rose, which honours the outstanding entertainment programme or series of the past year. In 2019 The Golden Rose was won by the drama series, Chernobyl.
